Germany Run Riot! Curacao Thrashed 7-1 in Their Opening 2026 World Cup Match

Germany opened their 2026 World Cup campaign with an impressive performance after crushing Curaçao 7-1 in the opening Group E fixture at NRG Stadium, Houston, United States, on Monday 15 June 2026 WIB.

This emphatic victory immediately placed Der Panzer at the top of the provisional Group E Standings with three points. Meanwhile, Curaçao - who were making their first ever World Cup appearance - had to settle for bottom position in the group.

Felix Nmecha emerged as the early stand-out performer, netting a rapid goal in the 6th minute. This strike also went on record as the fastest goal scored across the entire tournament up to that point.

After playing a neat one-two combination with Florian Wirtz, Nmecha fired a curling shot that Curaçao Goalkeeper Eloy Room was completely unable to read. Germany took a 1-0 lead.

Despite their status as tournament debutants, Curaçao did not roll over easily. The Caribbean side pulled level at 1-1 in the 21st minute, when Livano Comenencia produced a sharp finish that caught the entire German defence flat-footed.

Curaçao's equaliser would not stand for long however. Germany reasserted control over the match and retook the lead in the 38th minute, as Nico Schlotterbeck powered home a firm header from Nathaniel Brown's corner delivery.

Germany extended their advantage further right before the interval. Kai Havertz converted a penalty successfully in first half stoppage time, after Felix Nmecha was fouled by Riechedly Bazoer inside the penalty area. The score remained 3-1 going into half time.

Germany showed no signs of easing off after the restart. Just two minutes into the second half, Joshua Kimmich made it 4-1 with a clinical finish that broke straight through the Curaçao defence.

Nathaniel Brown got himself on the scoresheet next in the 68th minute. Germany's total dominance was underlined when Deniz Undav added another goal to extend the lead even further in the 78th minute.

Germany's goal rout was completed by Havertz, who scored his second of the match in the 88th minute. Collecting a perfectly weighted through ball from Undav, the forward calmly rounded the opposition goalkeeper to confirm the final 7-1 thrashing.

Beyond the huge win, this fixture also delivered a historic milestone for Manuel Neuer. The veteran German shot-stopper became only the second goalkeeper in history to feature at five separate World Cup tournaments. Before this, the achievement had only ever been reached by Mexican legend Antonio Carbajal, who appeared at the 1950, 1954, 1958, 1962 and 1966 editions.

This result provides Germany with excellent momentum heading into their remaining Group E matches, while also sending a clear warning to all other contenders that they have arrived as genuine candidates for the 2026 World Cup Title.
