Jakarta – Indonesia National Football Team is targeting their second victory in the June 2026 FIFA Matchday schedule when they face Mozambique at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Senayan, Jakarta on Tuesday, 9 June 2026. This determination was stated directly by head coach John Herdman and midfielder Joey Pelupessy during the pre-match press conference held in Senayan, Jakarta one day prior to kickoff.
The fixture against Mozambique gives the Garuda Squad a chance to close this FIFA Matchday period with a perfect record, after they previously secured a convincing 3-0 win over Oman. This result acts as valuable foundation for Indonesia to maintain their positive run while building confidence ahead of future international commitments.
During the press conference, John Herdman stressed that his squad must not grow complacent following the victory against Oman. The Canadian head coach noted that Mozambique are an opponent with a very distinct playing style, which must be approached with full concentration and thorough preparation.

Herdman instructed his players to uphold the same level of discipline, match intensity and competitive mentality that they demonstrated against Oman. He highlighted that every international match carries unique challenges, so Indonesia must be able to adapt to any situation that develops on the pitch.
Herdman's warning echoes the message delivered by PSSI Chairman and Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir. While observing the national team's training session in Jakarta, Erick reminded the players not to underestimate Mozambique despite their recent dominant win over Oman. He emphasised that every opponent deserves respect and must be faced with equal seriousness to preserve consistent team performance.
Meanwhile, Joey Pelupessy confirmed every player shares the unified goal of finishing this FIFA Matchday on a positive note. The Europe-based midfielder stated the victory over Oman has given the squad extra motivation, but that this must not cause the team to lose focus.
"Our core target is to execute this match properly and bring happiness for everyone," Joey stated during the press conference.
Joey also added that the entire squad is in good physical and mental condition following the full series of preparation and training drills. He expressed confidence that all players are ready to deliver their best performance in front of home supporters.
Support from tens of thousands of fans inside Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium is expected to provide another major boost for the Garuda squad. Playing on home ground, Indonesia are aiming to conclude the June 2026 FIFA Matchday with two consecutive wins and sustain the positive momentum currently being built.
For both John Herdman and Joey Pelupessy, the objective is unambiguous: claim victory over Mozambique, maintain their positive form, and deliver the best possible result for the Indonesian public who continue to stand behind the Garuda National Team.
