Sentul, Bogor - Indonesian football enters a highly meaningful week. Persib Bandung successfully kicked off their 2026 President's Cup campaign with a victory over Arema FC, while the Indonesian National Team prepares to begin their 2026 AFF Cup journey against Cambodia on Monday evening (27/7/2026).
Although held on separate stages, both matches equally serve as key momentum to measure readiness before facing the actual challenges ahead.
Persib opened their President's Cup run with a narrow 1-0 win against Arema FC.

Herdman: The match against Cambodia is the starting point for building the national football team's identity.
Final Squad of the Indonesian National Team for the 2026 AFF Cup is dominated by Persib and Persija.
Uilliam Barros' sole goal secured Maung Bandung's lead in the temporary Group A standings, while also keeping their chance to qualify for the final round intact.
Alongside the positive result, this match also showed early development for the team which is currently entering a formation phase following multiple changes to the player squad.
Former Indonesian National Team and Persib Bandung midfielder Eka Ramdani assessed that this result should not be judged purely from the final score. According to him, pre-season tournaments are an opportunity for coaches to measure team readiness before the Indonesian Super League commences.
"This match also becomes input for the coach to observe how prepared the team is before competing in the Super League," Eka stated on the ITSMe Podcast.
The same view was conveyed by football observer Ronny Pangemanan, who is familiarly known as Bung Ropan. He assessed that Persib is once again facing squad regeneration challenges after being left by a number of key players including Andrew Jung, Federico Barba, and several other names.
However, according to Ropan, this situation is not something new for Maung Bandung.
"Last season Persib also went through quite major changes. They managed to adapt quickly and still ended up becoming Super League champions. That shows this team has quite strong foundations," he explained.
Meanwhile, public attention is also focused on the Indonesian National Team who will start their 2026 AFF Cup campaign by facing Cambodia.
This match is an important competitive debut for head coach John Herdman as he builds the playing identity for the Garuda Squad.
Herdman had previously confirmed that this opening match is not just about chasing three points, but acts as the first step to form the team's character; ranging from match organisation, tactical discipline, right through to competitive mentality. For this reason, Indonesia's overall performance will be the centre of attention, not just the final result.
These two major milestones became the main discussion topic on the ITSMe Podcast at Sentul Studio, Bogor. Hosted by Raisha alongside Gilang Respaty, the podcast reviews Persib's progress in the President's Cup as well as the challenges facing the Indonesian National Team ahead of their 2026 AFF Cup opening fixture against Cambodia.
With perspectives from former players and senior football observers, this podcast does not only discuss match results, but also examines the full process of building a competitive team.
From Persib Bandung to the Indonesian National Team, this week marks an important beginning to see how ready both the club and the Garuda Squad are to pursue their big targets for the 2026 season.
