Persib Defeats Arema 1-0, Barros' Debut Goal Kicks Off the 2026 President's Cup.

Bandung, ITSMe – Dusk began to fall as thousands of Bobotoh supporters filled Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung Regency, on Saturday (25/7/2026).

This sea of blue that occupied every section of the stands was not only present to welcome the start of the 2026 President's Cup, but also carried great expectations for Persib Bandung's new era under head coach Igor Tolic.

Those expectations were answered, even if it only came through a single goal.

New Brazilian striker Uilliam Barros was the difference maker as Persib defeated defending champions Arema FC 1-0 in the Group A opening match. This goal did not only secure Maung Bandung's first three points of the tournament, it also marked Barros' first goal since signing for Persib.

This fixture carried significant context. Persib entered the match as the reigning Indonesian League champions, while Arema FC arrived holding the title of defending President's Cup winners.

Separately, this match also marked Igor Tolic's competitive debut for Maung Bandung, in front of thousands of Bobotoh who had been filling the stadium since late afternoon.

Hours before kick-off, the entire stadium precinct was already crowded with supporters arriving with family members or fan communities, creating that uniquely magnetic Bandung football atmosphere.

Activity was not limited to inside the stadium grounds. Clear economic vibrancy was also visible around the venue, with dozens of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) offering signature Bandung cuisine, creative products, and various official club merchandise.

Maruarar Sirait, Chairman of the President's Cup Steering Committee, confirmed that this tournament is designed not only as a football celebration, but also to drive community economic activity through the involvement of local MSMEs.

Once the match commenced, Persib immediately took attacking initiative.

Igor Tolic's side dominated possession, while Arema opted to sit deep and wait for counter-attack opportunities. Balsa Sekulic and Ikhwan Ali Tanamal created a series of early chances, but were unable to break the deadlock.

The long-awaited goal finally arrived in the 24th minute.

Berguinho played a low cross in from the right flank, which Uilliam Barros finished with a single first touch right in front of goal. The ball hit the back of Adi Satryo's net, instantly triggering thunderous roars from the Bobotoh crowd filling Si Jalak Harupat Stadium.

Holding the one-goal lead allowed Persib to play with greater composure. Conversely, Arema FC increased their attacking intensity in the second half following a number of player substitutions.

Marcos Santos attempted to push his side forward, but Persib's disciplined defensive line shut down every effort from Singo Edan, who failed to find an equalising goal.

Persib also created several counter-attack chances of their own. However no further goals were scored before the referee blew the full-time whistle.

The 1-0 scoreline remained, securing Maung Bandung a winning start to the 2026 President's Cup and putting them top of the provisional Group A standings.

After the match, Igor Tolic praised his players' hard work, while also confirming there remain multiple aspects of the team's performance that require improvement.

In the Arema camp, Marcos Santos stated his side will immediately conduct a full performance review ahead of their upcoming fixtures.

The season has only just begun, and one single victory does not determine everything. But for Persib Bandung, this night at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium marked that their first step of the 2026/2027 campaign had started exactly as planned.

For Uilliam Barros meanwhile, scoring on opening night was the perfect way to introduce himself to the Bobotoh faithful, and begin his new chapter with Maung Bandung.
