Algeria sent a strong statement ahead of the 2026 World Cup after pulling off a shock 1-0 victory over the Netherlands in an international friendly match held at De Kuip Stadium, Rotterdam, early Thursday WIB. Despite the home side dominating throughout the full match, Anis Hadj Moussa emerged as Algeria's match-winning hero.

This result delivers a massive confidence boost for Algeria before they compete in the 2026 World Cup final tournament. Nicknamed Les Fennecs, the side will face severe challenges in Group J, which also contains Argentina, Jordan and Austria.

For the Netherlands, this defeat acts as a wake-up call as they enter their final preparation window before official competition commences.

The side coached by Ronald Koeman actually dominated proceedings, creating multiple dangerous scoring opportunities right from the opening minutes.

Donyell Malen repeatedly tested Algeria's defensive line. The Oranje even found the back of the net via a finish from Tijjani Reijnders, however this goal was immediately disallowed by the referee for offside.

The hosts continued to mount sustained pressure. Ryan Gravenberch received a clear opening to put the Netherlands ahead, but Algerian Goalkeeper Luca Zidane -- son of French Football Legend Zinedine Zidane -- produced outstanding reflex saves to deny him.

Throughout the entire first half, the Netherlands controlled ball possession and kept bombarding the opposition defence. Yet Algeria's backline held firm with disciplined organisation. The score remained deadlocked going into the half time break.

Once the second half kicked off, Algeria began pushing forward with greater conviction. Ibrahim Maza threatened the Dutch goal, but his strike drifted off target.

The Netherlands reclaimed control of the match tempo. Tijjani Reijnders attempted a volleyed effort, but the ball went wide of the goal frame.

Shortly afterwards, Justin Kluivert also received a good goalscoring chance, though his finish also failed to change the scoreline.

Just as the Netherlands were committing men forward to search for a winning goal, Algeria landed a decisive counter-attack blow in the 86th minute.

Anis Hadj Moussa converted a rapid Les Fennecs breakaway to fire past the home goalkeeper.

The Netherlands tried to react by cranking up their attacking intensity for the final minutes of the match. However Algeria's defence remained unbroken, repelling every effort launched by Koeman's squad.

When the full time whistle sounded, the 1-0 scoreline for Algeria stood unchanged. This result counts as one of the biggest surprise outcomes on this FIFA Match Day fixture schedule.
