Indonesia's hope of claiming the title at Singapore Open 2026 did not materialise. Men's Doubles pair Fajar Alfian / Muhammad Shohibul Fikri had to settle for finishing the tournament as runners-up after falling to Indian representatives Satwiksairaj Rankireddy / Chirag Shetty in the final match held on Sunday, 31 May 2026.
During the match hosted at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, Fajar / Fikri initially opened a clear path to victory after securing the first game. However, the top-seeded Indian pair managed to rally back and overturn the match, eventually taking the win with a final score of 18-21, 21-17, 21-16.
Fajar confirmed that both he and Fikri had given their absolute maximum performance in this championship decider. Even so, he acknowledged that their opponents competed with greater confidence and were far more effective at capitalising on scoring opportunities.

"They played with extremely high confidence and had very lethal attacking plays. Multiple times we were forced to lift the shuttle, which they were immediately able to exploit," stated Fajar, quoted from an official PBSI release on Sunday.
Echoing his partner's remarks, Fikri noted that the constant pressure created by the Indian pair's game style was the core challenge they faced throughout the entire final match.
"We kept fighting to break out of that pressure the whole time, but they just played incredibly solidly," said Fikri.
Despite failing to bring home the championship title, this runner-up result remains valuable preparation for Fajar and Fikri ahead of the upcoming tournament circuit. Both players aim to maintain consistent performance throughout the full 2026 BWF competitive season.
Support from Indonesian badminton fans is also regarded as critical to help them achieve better results in future events, especially the Indonesia Open 2026 which will commence on Tuesday, 2 June 2026.
"Going forward, we hope we can keep up this consistency for the rest of the year. We have set many targets for 2026, and the most immediate one right now is the Indonesia Open next week," added Fajar.
This final defeat for Fajar / Fikri also confirms Indonesia departed the Singapore Open 2026 without any titles, as no other national representatives managed to progress to the final round across the four remaining competition categories.
Following this result, Indonesia will now redirect full focus towards the Indonesia Open 2026, with hopes of securing improved results while competing in front of their home supporters.
