The BBWI Travel Fair x BINA 2026 represents a new catalyst for the Family Tourism industry in Indonesia. This event delivers diverse travel inspiration, curated to be accessible, flexible, and family-friendly, particularly ahead of the upcoming School Holiday season.
Taking place at Tunjungan Plaza, Surabaya, East Java from 15 to 17 May 2026, the Ministry of Tourism introduced the "Indonesia Play Village" concept, which combines entertainment, education, and interactive travel experiences for both children and accompanying parents.
Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana confirmed that the core goal of this initiative is to deliver more meaningful Travel Experiences for the general public.

"We want to invite people to discover new experiences through travel that is local, flexible, and still leaves lasting memorable impressions," stated Widiyanti.
This concept works to shift public perspective: holidays do not need to be costly or located far away. Nearby local destinations can become compelling options to build quality family bonding moments.
This exhibition is a collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and the Indonesian Shopping Center Tenants & Retailers Association (HIPPINDO) through the Shop Local Indonesia (BINA) programme, with supporting partnership from the East Java Provincial Government.
Attendees are presented with varied activities including traditional games, dedicated children's education zones, and immersive travel destination exploration experiences designed for all age groups in the family.
Numerous tourism industry stakeholders are participating in this fair. Travel agencies, destination operators, and attraction management bodies have all launched a range of more affordable, flexible holiday packages.
Major industry partners including Taman Safari Group, Jakarta Aquarium, KidZania, Jatim Park, KAI Group, and the Borobudur Authority Agency (BPOB) are also participating in the event, presenting curated family travel inspiration.
The Ministry of Tourism is running the 'New Way To Holiday' public campaign, positioning domestic travel as the primary choice for modern families who are managing household expenditure more intentionally.
Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Ministry of Tourism Deputy for Marketing, explained this concept was developed in response to evolving Tourist Behaviour, where travellers now prioritise operational efficiency without sacrificing the quality of their Travel Experience.
To support travel planning, the Ministry has launched an artificial intelligence platform named MaIA. This tool provides users with custom destination inspiration and travel recommendations aligned with individual family requirements.
Additionally, Indonesia's flagship priority destinations: Lake Toba, Borobudur Temple, Mandalika, and Labuan Bajo remain highlighted as leading family travel options across the country.
