The classic match between Persija Jakarta and Persebaya Surabaya will take place in week 9 of the 2025/2026 BRI Super League at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT), Saturday 18 October 2025. The Kemayoran Tigers come to the City of Heroes not to play safe but to hunt for full points.

"We've prepared for this match much better and hope to achieve maximum results against Persebaya," said Persija Coach Mauricio Souza in a virtual press conference on Friday.

Persija's preparations feel increasingly mature as players who previously defended the Indonesian national team have returned and immediately joined training. The return of key players has energized the team.

Mauricio stated the team's confidence has increased facing Bajol Ijo, especially after deep analysis of the opponent's gameplay.

"Therefore, players and coaching staff are quite confident facing the team nicknamed Bajol Ijo. Moreover, we've discussed and analyzed Persebaya's playing style."

For the Brazilian coach, consistency is key.

"We must achieve better results every match, and that's the mission we bring to Surabaya," he said.

Beyond tactics, Mauricio also highlighted the match atmosphere. The dualism between The Jakmania and Bonek supporters always colors this classic clash. He hopes such atmosphere will continue in the competition.

Persija midfielder Fabio Calonego emphasized the team's readiness to face Persebaya.

"Preparations are solid, we've prepared well throughout the week," he stated.

Fabio also welcomed the big-match atmosphere enthusiastically.

"Especially with both supporters' presence at the stadium, it will boost players' confidence."

He fully understands the pressure and energy in such matches.

"We know this is a big game, so playing with both teams' supporters present will be better for us," he added.

In the standings, this match is crucial. Persija ranks fourth with 11 points from three wins, two draws, and two losses. Persebaya trails by just one point in sixth place with three wins, one draw, and two losses.

With a narrow standings gap and historical rivalry, this duel isn't just a match. It's about prestige, tactics, and who dares to play more aggressively on the big stage.

Persija arrives with determination. Persebaya won't stay silent at home. GBT stands ready to witness it. (Antara)
