The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) appreciates the efforts of Indonesia's Uber Cup Team who reached the semifinals of the 2026 Uber Cup. Although they failed to advance to the final after losing 1-3 to South Korea, this achievement signals positive growth for Indonesia's women's badminton sector.
PBSI's Head of Development and Achievement, Eng Hian, stated that Putri Kusuma Wardani and her teammates deserve recognition. He emphasized that reaching the semifinals shows significant progress compared to previous editions.
"They deserve appreciation despite our ultimate hope of bringing home the Uber Cup, last achieved in 1996. We hope our women's athletes will be more optimistic for future editions," Eng Hian declared during a Jakarta press conference.

Bronze secured, PBSI evaluates women's team after Uber Cup 2026 target met.
From the tournament's outset, PBSI set no specific targets for the Uber Cup team. The primary focus for the Red-and-White squad was progressing gradually and remaining competitive at each stage.
This semifinal result is particularly notable as women's badminton remains dominated by powerhouses like South Korea and China. Amidst such competition, Indonesia demonstrated promising development.
Eng Hian stressed that the next step involves building athletes' confidence in both individual and team events. He asserted that improvement shouldn't rest solely on players' shoulders.
"This requires collective effort. Players can't succeed without management support, nor can management alone if athletes underperform. Solidarity is crucial to elevate quality and achievements, especially in women's teams," Eng Hian affirmed.
The 2026 Uber Cup semifinal marks a major milestone for Indonesia. In the six previous editions (2012-2022), Indonesia had consistently stalled at the quarterfinal stage.
Historically, Indonesia's best Uber Cup achievement was winning in 1996. Since then, the Indonesian Women's Team only managed runner-up positions in 2008 and 2024.
This year's semifinal breakthrough provides PBSI vital groundwork to develop regeneration and competitive mentality within the women's sector for increasingly fierce global competition.
