A major leap was recorded by the Indonesian men's national futsal team in the latest FIFA Ranking update. The Garuda Squad now occupies 14th position globally after previously being ranked 24th. This sharp rise confirms Indonesian futsal's rapid development at the international level.

Based on official FIFA data published Friday, Indonesia now has 1,269.82 points and has become one of Asia's most significantly improved nations in the latest period.

Within Asia, Indonesia sits fourth, behind Iran, Thailand, and Japan. This achievement demonstrates how Hector Souto's team is beginning to compete consistently with Asia's traditional futsal powerhouses.

Indonesia's resurgence momentum didn't come instantly. A key factor boosting Garuda's position was their successful run to the final of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2026.

On their journey to the championship match, Indonesia displayed quality by eliminating strong teams like Vietnam and Japan.

Their victory over Japan became particularly notable as Japan has long been regarded as one of Asia's futsal giants.

Indonesia also successfully overcame Vietnam (currently world-ranked 22nd), confirming that Garuda's performance wasn't just a momentary surprise.

During the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2026 final, Indonesia nearly made history before suffering a dramatic penalty shootout defeat to Iran (4-5) after drawing 5-5 in regulation time.

Though they failed to lift the trophy, Hector Souto's squad gained widespread attention for delivering a fierce challenge to one of the world's best teams.

Indonesia's impressive journey continued at the 2026 ASEAN Futsal Championship

Garuda reached the final again but fell to Thailand 1-2 in front of a home crowd.

This series of results formed the foundation for Indonesia's FIFA ranking surge. Consistent final appearances in major tournaments have established Indonesia as a serious Asian contender.

Meanwhile, Brazil still dominates the men's futsal FIFA Ranking after winning the 2026 Copa America Futsal. The global top five consists of Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Argentina, and Iran.

In the women's category, Brazil also leads the Latest FIFA Ranking. They're followed by Spain, Portugal, Argentina, and Italy.

Unlike the men's team, Indonesia's women's national futsal team has declined. The Indonesian women's squad dropped three places from 18th to 21st globally with 1,033.44 points.

At the Asian level, Indonesia's women's futsal team ranks seventh, just below China. Asia's top five are occupied by Japan, Thailand, Iran, Vietnam, and Taiwan.
