Hospitality often becomes the first impression that lingers in any journey. Two Southeast Asian nations, the Philippines and Thailand, emerge as prominent faces of Southeast Asia in the list of the world's most polite countries.
The list was released by Remitly, compiling global perceptions of international courtesy.
"We asked people worldwide to name countries they consider having the politest populations. The following list shows the 25 nations most frequently mentioned by respondents," Remitly stated, as quoted from its official website on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

In this ranking, the Philippines secured sixth place with a score of 2.30 percent. This achievement reflects the culture of "hospitality" long embedded in the island nation's identity.
From warm smiles on Manila’s streets to friendly welcomes on islands like Palawan, warmth feels like a natural part of daily life.
Meanwhile, Thailand—often dubbed the "Land of Smiles"—ranked 19th with a score of 1.15 percent, tying with France.
In cities like Bangkok or cultural hubs like Chiang Mai, hospitality isn't mere formality but a cultural expression in everyday interactions.
Notably, Japan dominated the list significantly.
"Over a third of survey respondents considered the Japanese the politest. This is unsurprising, given Japan’s reputation as a civilized and respectful nation," the statement noted.
The presence of the Philippines and Thailand underscores Southeast Asia’s appeal as a human-experience-based Tourist Destination.
Local hospitality bridges cultures and tourists, transforming journeys into unforgettable personal stories.
Remitly emphasized this list is perception-based, not an absolute measure.
"A lower ranking in perceived politeness doesn't equate to a higher ranking in rudeness," it clarified.
Amst global competition among Tourist Destinations, hospitality remains an irreplaceable currency.
In Southeast Asia, these two nations prove courtesy isn't just a cultural value but a prime attraction inviting the world to visit—and return.
