The surge in hiking interest to Mount Rinjani once again proves one thing: Rinjani remains a "must-visit wishlist" item for Indonesian travelers.

Entering early April 2026, the long Holiday period was immediately swarmed by climbers. The result? Quotas for hiking at the opening of the official trails were completely sold out.

"Around 3,000 prospective climbers have booked tickets via the E-Rinjani application. In the initial weeks after the trail opening, quotas were already full," said Head of Administration Sub-Division of the Mount Rinjani National Park Office (TNGR), Astekita Ardiaristo, when met at the Rinjani Begawe Festival in Mataram, Saturday, March 28, 2026.

The Mount Rinjani National Park Office (TNGR) had previously closed hiking trails from January 1 to March 31, 2026. This closure was implemented for Ecosystem Recovery and to avoid risks from Extreme Weather.

Upon reopening on April 1, enthusiasm exploded instantly, as if many climbers had "really missed" the trails, the sunrise, and the panorama of Segara Anak Lake from the heights.

"The northern route, with around 400 climber quotas, is completely full. April 3-5, 2026 is a long Weekend," he stated.

Rinjani 7.0: More Advanced and Safer Climbing

This year, the Rinjani climbing experience is also being elevated through a new program called Rinjani 7.0. This isn't just a gimmick, but a serious upgrade in safety and technology.

"Rinjani 7.0 represents seven innovations strengthening the climbing safety system based on data and technology," explained Astekita.

Some of the innovations introduced include the use of tracking devices for climbers, an integrated communication system across the entire mountain area, and a command center ready to monitor field conditions in real-time.

For those attempting their first mountain climb or solo hiking, this system is good news as safety factors are being given more attention.

Rinjani, A Destination That Never Goes Quiet

Rinjani's popularity is nothing new. Throughout 2025 alone, the area recorded over 80,000 climbers.

The total reached 80,214 people, dominated by Foreign Tourists numbering 43,236, while Domestic Tourists reached 36,978.

Interestingly, non-climbing Tourism activities were also quite high. There were over 52,000 visits, dominated by local tourists enjoying the natural beauty without needing to summit.

Economically, the impact is significant. Money circulation in the area reached Rp182.05 billion, with State Revenue (PNBP) hitting Rp25.92 billion. This shows that Rinjani is not just an adventure destination, but also an engine for Tourism Economy.
