The search for a new manager is a hot topic internally at Manchester United as the 2025/26 English League season draws to a close. Although the club has entrusted the manager's seat to Michael Carrick until the end of the season, the management is reportedly considering a number of candidates for the permanent manager role.
Amidst this speculation, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Unai Emery is the most suitable figure to lead the revival of the club based at Old Trafford.
According to him, Emery possesses all the qualities needed to bring MU back to competing at the top level.

"Unai Emery should be the strongest candidate for manager at Old Trafford. He is a manager who wins trophies, has a clear Football vision, has a track record of revitalizing clubs that need a small revolution to reach the Champions League, and demands respect and leads with authority," Carragher said, quoted by The Telegraph.
Emery the Europa League King
Emery's name is not unfamiliar in European Football. He won four Europa League trophies while managing Sevilla. This achievement makes him one of the most successful coaches in the history of Europe's second-tier competition.
Emery also achieved success when coaching Paris Saint-Germain. He helped the French giants win seven domestic titles during his tenure.
Currently, Emery is still under a long-term contract with Aston Villa until the summer of 2029, proof of the recognition of his reputation as an elite coach.
Experience Coaching in the English League
Besides achievements in Europe, Emery's experience in English football is also an added value.
He previously managed Arsenal before continuing his career with Aston Villa. That experience means he understands the dynamics of the famously competitive English League.
Carragher believes Emery's ability to build team structure and tactical discipline could be the solution for MU, who are seeking stability.
A Manager with Full Authority
Another reason Emery is considered suitable to manage MU is his leadership style, which demands full control over the club's football project.
According to Carragher, this character is increasingly rare among modern coaches.
"Emery is one of the few symbols of a bygone era when managers wanted and took full control of a club's football operations," he concluded.
