For many nature lovers, the first step into the world of mountaineering often begins with summits that appear "friendly" to beginners. Yet behind the beauty of high mountain panoramas, dangers still lurk, from thin air to unexpected weather changes.

High mountains are unforgiving places. However, many peaks above 14,000 feet offer non-technical or moderately technical routes that can become "big" goals for Beginner Climbers with proper preparation.

Several famous summits across continents are often chosen by Beginner Climbers as initial milestones.

These mountains have at least one popular route that is still achievable for Beginner Climbers, provided safety factors, climbing permits, and acclimatization are taken seriously.

1. Mount Whitney – 4,421 meters

This mountain is the highest point in the contiguous United States, towering on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada range.

The hiking trail from Whitney Portal allows non-technical access to the summit, making it a challenging yet realistic goal for climbers.

The standard route adds over 1,800 meters of elevation over approximately 32-35 km round trip. Many climbers complete it in one day or with a two-day trip.

Access to this mountain is restricted with a quota and lottery system to protect the fragile alpine environment.

Climbers who obtain a permit must carry it and follow strict rules regarding waste and camping.

2. Pikes Peak – 4,302 meters

Often nicknamed "America's Mountain," this summit is relatively accessible due to a famous hiking trail, a highway, and a cog railway.

The main trail for climbers is the Barr Trail, ascending about 2,250 meters over a distance of 21 km from Manitou Springs to the summit.

Although popular, this journey still demands excellent physical condition. Climbers must prepare water, the possibility of overnight stays, and face typical Rocky Mountain weather changes like afternoon thunderstorms and sudden temperature drops.

3. Mount Kilimanjaro – 5,895 meters

Africa's highest mountain towers over northern Tanzania. Its trekking routes pass through Rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, to barren summit slopes leading to Uhuru Peak.

The ascent must be done with an official guide and support team.

Standard routes take five days to over a week, primarily to aid acclimatization and reduce the risk of altitude sickness.

4. Mount Kenya – up to 5,199 meters

Kenya's highest mountain has two main technical peaks, Batian and Nelion, only for experienced climbers.

However, many beginner climbers target Point Lenana at 4,985 meters, which doesn't require climbing techniques.

Popular routes like Sirimon, Naro Moru, and Chogoria are typically covered over several days with overnight stays in mountain huts or camps.

5. Pico de Orizaba – 5,636 meters

This Volcano is Mexico's highest peak and is also known as Citlaltépetl.

Although its normal route is relatively easy navigation-wise, the upper section is glaciated, so climbers must be prepared to face crevasses, Extreme Weather, and high altitude.

6. Cotopaxi – 5,897 meters

Cotopaxi is one of the world's highest active stratovolcanoes.

The climb usually starts from the refugio, followed by a night ascent over Snow and ice to reach the summit when Snow conditions are more stable.

7. Mount Rainier – 4,392 meters

This mountain dominates the landscape of Washington state and is one of the most glaciated peaks in North America.

A summit climb often involves a journey over 14 km with an elevation gain of about 2,700 meters, traversing glaciers with dangerous crevasses.

8. Mont Blanc – 4,810 meters

Western Europe's highest peak lies on the border of France and Italy, an icon of the Alps.

Its popularity has led to new restrictions like bans on wild camping and mandatory mountain hut reservations.

9. Island Peak – 6,189 meters

Also known as Imja Tse, this peak is one of the popular "trekking peaks" in the Everest region.

Although often said to be suitable for beginners, climbers still must contend with steep snow sections and significant exposure to precipices.(travelandtourworld)
