Persebaya Surabaya carries a major mission when visiting the headquarters of Borneo FC at Segiri Stadium, Samarinda, on Saturday night in the continuation of the Super League 2925-26. The team nicknamed Bajul Ijo is determined to end a seven-year poor trend without victory at the home of Pesut Etam.
Persebaya's coach, Bernardo Tavares, is fully aware that history hasn't favored Bajul Ijo whenever playing in Samarinda. Yet he emphasized his squad arrives with big ambitions to break that poor record.
"Looking at the history of meetings between Borneo and Persebaya, the last time Persebaya won in Samarinda was on June 23, 2019, nearly seven years ago. That's a very long time. It means Borneo is very strong when playing at home," he said as quoted from the club's official website.

Persebaya's last victory at Borneo's headquarters occurred in 2019 when Bajol Ijo narrowly won 2-1. To date, that result remains Persebaya's only victory at Segiri.
Tavares didn't deny that Borneo FC is one of the toughest teams in this season's competition. The consistency of Pesut Etam's gameplay in achieving positive results, including during away matches, predicts this game will be tightly contested.
"We know Borneo is a strong team, we watched their last match, and we saw the good result they got at the home of Persija," said Tavares.
Therefore, the coach from Portugal asked his squad to perform with discipline and focus throughout the match.
"For us, the most important thing is to play as a team with a good attitude and focus for the full 90 minutes," he concluded.
