As millions prepare to leave the city, the Jakarta Provincial Government invites residents to do the opposite—stay and celebrate Eid al-Fitr in the capital. This year, the Jakarta administration promotes the theme Homecoming to Jakarta for the 1447 Hijriah Eid al-Fitr celebration.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo encourages people to make Jakarta an Eid Holiday destination rather than merely a city to leave behind.
“For this Eid, we adopt the 'Homecoming to Jakarta' theme. We invite everyone to celebrate Eid in Jakarta,” stated Pramono in Jakarta.

Jakarta More Peaceful, More Intimate
Eid in Jakarta always offers a distinct atmosphere. Typically congested roads turn quiet, Air Quality improves, and public spaces become more comfortable to explore.
The provincial government aims to transform this period into an enjoyable urban Tourism experience.
For residents staying in the city, special programs are prepared, including massive discounts at shopping centers before the holiday.
“We'll provide 50% to 70% discounts at malls for Jakarta residents,” he said.
Additionally, access to capital attractions is facilitated. Public Transportation modes like TransJakarta, Jakarta MRT, and Jakarta LRT will be free during Eid celebrations, including Microtrans services.
“Residents can Travel using Public Transportation for free on Eid,” he added.
Eid Staycation in the Heart of the City
Beyond shopping and transport, the hospitality sector participates with special hotel stay discounts during Eid.
Staycations offer new ways to enjoy Jakarta—exploring Historical Areas, savoring legendary cuisine, or leisurely strolling in parks without workday bustle.
In the digital era, family connections transcend distance. The government encourages technology use to maintain bonds with hometown relatives.
“Residents can video-call families all day,” he noted.
Pramono highlighted that choosing not to travel home also benefits family finances.
“Homecoming by car or motorcycle is exhausting and drains savings,” he explained.
Options to Travel Home Remain
Despite the "Homecoming to Jakarta" theme, the government still facilitates hometown travel through a Free Homecoming program for 26,500 people during Eid 1447 Hijriah.
“Those wishing to travel home may do so, while non-travelers receive these facilities,” he concluded.
