Roger Federer has hung up his racket professionally, yet the world's spotlight never truly leaves him. Shanghai once again witnessed how the maestro's charm endures, not through trophies or rankings, but through warmth, and collaborations bridging the worlds of sports and entertainment.

This two-time Shanghai Masters champion returned to the court in China for an exhibition match no less exciting than an official contest.

Federer partnered with renowned action star Donnie Yen, facing actor Wu Lei and former WTA star Zheng Jie.

This blend of athletes and film stars delivered a unique, entertaining, and laughter-filled spectacle.

In a thrilling three tie-break match, Federer and Yen secured a comeback victory with a score of 5-7, 10-8, 7-1.

Despite the relaxed atmosphere, Federer still showcased his quality, not just through his shots, but also in how he fostered a positive vibe on court.

"I thought you guys played really well. Thank you for coming. I saw you having fun," Federer told the Chinese actors, who admitted feeling nervous before the match, as quoted by ATP on Saturday.

Federer, known throughout his career as a symbol of grace and sportsmanship, now embraces a new role as a global tennis ambassador uniting diverse communities.

He not only praised his opponents' performance but also appreciated their effort.

"I want to speak about how hard they practiced to prepare for the match, for Donnie and for you, Lei. Jie and I didn't need to practice as hard as them, but seeing the spirit behind the practice session, I hope they can do it after the match too," said Federer.

Federer knows tennis is more than just competition and scores. Tennis can be part of everyday life, bringing joy.

"And maybe also for the people watching and those here in the stadium, showing how important sport is for everyday life, for happiness. I'm happy we could share Centre Court at Qizhong Stadium today."

That statement reflects the side of Federer most beloved by the public: a legend who remains grounded, always seeking ways to make a positive impact, and enjoying the moment with fans.

Interestingly, this isn't Federer's first appearance in Shanghai since retiring.

Last year, he also played a similar exhibition match, partnering with singer and actor Eason Chan against ATP Tour player Zhang Zhizhen and table tennis champion Fan Zhendong.

In his prime, Federer seemed to share an emotional bond with Shanghai.

He repaid Shanghai's love not just with trophies, but with his presence, stories, and inspiration.

Many athletes retire and fade from public view. Federer is the opposite. He remains present, remains relevant, and continues to spread his love for the sport that made him famous.

He may no longer chase points, but every time Federer steps onto a court, the world remembers one thing: true legends never truly retire.
