Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir has given full support to Indonesia's top two female tennis players, Janice Tjen and Aldila Sutjiadi, ahead of their appearance at the Grand Slam Australian Open 2026 in Melbourne, Australia, taking place from January 18 to February 1.
“We provide our best support and prayers for Janice and Aldila to perform optimally at the Grand Slam Australian Open 2026,” wrote Erick Thohir via his social media account as monitored in Jakarta, Monday, January 19, 2026.
The presence of Janice and Aldila at this most prestigious Tennis Tournament affirms Indonesia's consistency at the elite level of world tennis, while also opening opportunities to make new history at Melbourne Park.

Janice Tjen's Path at the Australian Open 2026
Janice Tjen will compete in two events simultaneously: Women's Singles and Women's Doubles. In the singles event, the young Indonesian player will begin her campaign from the round of 128, a crucial phase demanding consistency and strong mentality.
In the women's doubles sector, Janice will partner with Polish tennis player Katarzyna Piter. The duo arrives at the Australian Open with high confidence after successfully winning the Hobart International, one of the key warm-up tournaments ahead of the Grand Slam.
Janice's performance over the past year has shown significant progress. Throughout 2025, she recorded impressive debuts at the Grand Slam and WTA Tour by winning the WTA 250 Chennai Open and the WTA 250 Hobart International. These achievements make her one of Asia's rising stars in women's tennis.
Aldila Sutjiadi, the Pillar of Experience in Doubles
Meanwhile, Aldila Sutjiadi is once again entrusted to compete in the women's doubles sector. The player, currently ranked 51st in the WTA doubles rankings, will partner with home player Giuliana Olmos.
Aldila's experience on the Grand Slam stage is a crucial asset. She reached the semifinals of Wimbledon 2023 and the US Open 2024 in mixed doubles, a rare achievement for an Indonesian Tennis Player in the modern era.
At the professional level, Aldila has collected five WTA Tour doubles titles, including the Copa Colsanitas 2022 which marked the resurgence of Indonesian Tennis after a long wait since 2003.

Janice and Aldila have become symbols of Indonesian tennis progress through the achievements they have carved. Janice is noted as the first Indonesian player to qualify for the main draw of a Grand Slam since 2004, and has collected various ITF titles and individual awards such as ITF Player of the Month.
Both have also successfully delivered achievements for the Red and White (Indonesia) in multi-event competitions. Janice won two gold medals at the SEA Games Thailand 2025 from the women's team and women's doubles events with Aldila. Meanwhile, Aldila previously also won a gold medal in mixed doubles with Christopher Rungkat at the 2018 Asian Games, along with several SEA Games golds in 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2025.
