Manchester United are closer to finding an interim manager after sacking Ruben Amorim earlier last week. The name currently leading as the strongest candidate to helm the Red Devils until the end of the season is Michael Carrick.
According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Monday, Carrick has received a contract proposal from Manchester United's management.
"The deal is almost finalized and will be signed this week," Romano wrote on his X account.

If completed, the former England and Manchester United midfielder is likely to manage the team until the end of the 2025/2026 season. He is the frontrunner compared to other candidates, including Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Solskjaer previously managed Manchester United from 2018–2021, replacing Jose Mourinho, before ultimately being dismissed due to the team's inconsistent performance. That experience has put his name back in contention, though he currently trails behind Carrick.
Both Carrick and Solskjaer reportedly met with Manchester United's Director of Sport, Jason Wilcox, to present their respective plans to club leadership.
According to Sky Sports, Carrick appeared more convincing with his short-term ideas deemed realistic for the team's current state, although Solskjaer's emotional connection and popularity remain considerations for management.
Currently, Manchester United remains under interim guidance from Darren Fletcher. However, results have been unsatisfactory: United drew 2-2 against Burnley in the Premier League, then were eliminated from the FA Cup after a 1-2 loss to Brighton.
This situation has increased urgency regarding the interim coach decision. All indications now point to Michael Carrick as the figure trusted to bring short-term stability during this high-pressure season.
