The full moon illuminated the grandeur of Borobudur Temple on Tuesday night, October 7, 2025. Under the dim sky, echoes of music, dance, and cultural expressions blended at the Borobudur Moon event, the inaugural art festival held within this World Heritage complex.
The Regent of Magelang, Central Java, Grengseng Pamuji, enthusiastically opened the event with high hopes.
“Today we open Borobudur Moon for the first time, and I hope it becomes an event we hold every full moon,” he said.

According to him, Borobudur Moon is not merely an art performance, but a symbol of a cultural journey that continues to shine from era to era.
“May Borobudur Moon become a light illuminating the journey of culture and tourism in Indonesia, especially in Magelang Regency,” he hoped.
Furthermore, Grengseng emphasized the importance of cross-regional and cross-generational collaboration in enlivening culture.
“I hope this becomes a bridge for collaboration in building and making culture one of our national identities,” he stated.
He appreciated the artists and cultural practitioners whom he called the guardians of the nation's noble values.
“Artists, cultural practitioners are noble guardians who continuously enliven the national spirit through creative and innovative expressions,” he said.
For Regent Grengseng, Borobudur is not just a tourist destination, but a space for reflection uniting the past, present, and future.
“Borobudur Temple is not only a tourist destination but becomes a space for reflection and dialogue across ages,” he said.
Through Borobudur Moon, he wants to restore Borobudur's role as the axis of world culture.
“Through Borobudur Moon, I hope we can revive the spirit of Borobudur as the center of world culture, a place for ideas, values, and expressions from various corners to meet,” he stated.
This inaugural Borobudur Moon edition also embodies inter-regional collaboration.
Alongside artists from Magelang Regency, hundreds of artists from Gianyar, Bali, also participated, presenting a unique and vibrant blend of cultural energy.
“I hope this becomes a future reality, not just a fleeting hope, and that this collaboration between Magelang Regency and Gianyar will lead to artist exchanges, joint festivals, and perhaps cross-generational creative projects that will further strengthen both regions,” he said.
More than just an art party, Grengseng wants Borobudur Moon to be an event that unites the soul of the archipelago under the full moon's light.
This activity is not only an art performance but a symbolic event uniting the soul of the archipelago under the full moon's light at Borobudur.
“Borobudur Moon is the embodiment of harmony between art, culture, and nature. This activity combines the spiritual beauty of Borobudur Temple with the living and dynamic cultural expressions from various corners of the nation,” he said.
Under Borobudur's full moon glow, the harmony between nature and culture was truly palpable.
Who knows, in the future, every full moon will always bring new light to Indonesian culture.(Antara)
