Real Madrid advanced to the 2026 Spanish Super Cup final after defeating city rivals Atletico Madrid 2-1 in the semifinal at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, early Friday, January 9, WIB. This victory sends Los Merengues to face Barcelona in El Clasico in the final on January 12, 2026.

Madrid secured the win through goals by Federico Valverde and Rodrygo. Atletico's sole goal was scored by Alexander Sorloth.

The result sets up an El Clasico final showdown after Barcelona demolished Athletic Bilbao 5-0 the previous day.

Madrid's opening goal came just two minutes into the match. Valverde's free kick flew past Jan Oblak. Though Oblak read the direction of Valverde's strike, the ball traveled faster than anticipated.

Valverde was instrumental again for Madrid's second goal. The Uruguayan midfielder provided the assist for Rodrygo's 55th-minute conversion, putting Real Madrid 2-0 ahead.

Diego Simeone's Atletico responded immediately through Alexander Sorloth's 58th-minute goal, narrowing the deficit to 1-2.

Match intensity surged as Atletico pressed relentlessly for an equalizer until the final minutes.

However, Madrid's rock-solid defense and Thibaut Courtois' composed goalkeeping thwarted Atletico's efforts.

The 2-1 scoreline held until full time.
