Two African giants, Egypt and Nigeria, once again demonstrated their class on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations stage. Led by their stars Mohamed Salah and Victor Osimhen, both teams advanced to the quarterfinals after eliminating their opponents in the Round of 16.
Egypt had to work extra hard before finally eliminating Benin 3-1 after extra time at Adrar Stadium on Monday, January 5, 2026, evening WIB.
The match was tight from the start, with both teams playing cautiously and creating few chances throughout the first half.

However, Benin fought back and forced the match into extra time after equalizing 1-1 through Jodel Dossou's goal in the 83rd minute.
In extra time, Egypt's experience proved decisive. The Pharaohs regained pressure and turned the game around. Yasser Ibrahim scored with a header in the 97th minute to put The Pharaohs ahead 2-1.
To seal the victory, captain Mohamed Salah scored in the 120+4th minute, ending the match 3-1.
This victory sends Egypt to the quarterfinals against the winner of the Ivory Coast versus Burkina Faso match.
Meanwhile, Nigeria displayed far more dominance when facing Mozambique at Fez Stadium on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, early morning WIB.
The Super Eagles won convincingly 4-0, led by Victor Osimhen's sharpness upfront.
Nigeria's goal fest was opened by Ademola Lookman in the 20th minute before Osimhen took center stage five minutes later.
Osimhen scored again in the 47th minute to extend Nigeria's lead to 3-0. Akor Adams concluded Nigeria's goal celebration in the 75th minute.
Next, Nigeria will face the winner of the Algeria versus Democratic Republic of Congo match in the quarterfinals.
