Manchester United and Chelsea enter the Premier League's mid-season Weekend with contrasting narratives. MU must face a crucial match without their captain and attacking maestro Bruno Fernandes, while Chelsea actually gains reinforcements with the return of several key players from injury.
Bruno is confirmed to be sidelined for about a month due to injury. This situation is rare as the Portuguese midfielder has been almost ever-present since joining in January 2020.
MU manager Ruben Amorim acknowledged Bruno is irreplaceable. However, he tries to see the positive side of this situation. According to him, Bruno's absence opens opportunities for other players to step up and take on leadership roles on the pitch.

"It's a great opportunity for players like Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and everyone else. So this is a good moment for them," stated Amorim on MU's website, Thursday, December 25, 2025.
MU's first test without Bruno comes when they host Newcastle United on Saturday, December 27, 2025 early morning WIB. This match is critical for the Red Devils, currently sitting seventh in the Standings with 26 points from 17 matches. Meanwhile, Newcastle arrives with a mission to break into the top 10.
Statistics highlight Fernandes' pivotal role as the Premier League's most frequent appearance-maker since 2020, MU's top chance-creator this season, and the team's highest expected goals (xG) contributor. MU has won only three of nine matches when Bruno was absent.
Chelsea Can Field Estevao and Liam Delap
At Stamford Bridge, the atmosphere is more positive. Chelsea receives an energy boost with the return of Estevao, Liam Delap, and Cole Palmer.
Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca confirmed Estevao and Delap are ready to play against Aston Villa.
"Estevao and Liam Delap have both returned," stated Maresca as quoted from Chelsea's official website, Thursday, December 25, 2025.
The return of Estevao and Delap strengthens Chelsea's squad, which recently welcomed back Cole Palmer from a long-term injury.
Palmer played 60 minutes against Everton, then over 70 minutes versus Newcastle.
"So I think he's progressing well, feels no issues, and I believe he can now play 90 minutes," said the Italian coach.
Chelsea currently occupies fourth place in the Premier League standings, trailing leaders Arsenal by 10 points.
With the squad nearly at full strength, The Blues hope to maintain their momentum in the upper echelons.
