Persebaya Surabaya has officially terminated the contract of Spanish coach Eduardo Perez following the draw against Arema FC in the 2025/2026 Super League continuation. This decision marks a firm step by Bajol Ijo's management to change the team's direction amid performances deemed below expectations.

Derby as the Trigger: Unforgivable Home Draw

The week 13 match at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium on Saturday, November 22, 2025, became the decisive moment for Eduardo Perez's fate.

Despite dominating the game, Persebaya could only manage a 1-1 draw against arch-rival Arema FC. This result was considered far below expectations, especially as it occurred in front of their own supporters.

Through its official Instagram account, the club announced the decision to end cooperation with Eduardo Perez.

“Persebaya today (22/11) has decided to end cooperation with Coach Eduardo Perez. Thank you for the collaboration over the past six months,” wrote Persebaya Surabaya.

Persebaya's management moved swiftly and is reportedly already securing a new coach as a replacement.

Eduardo Perez Disappointed with Draw Result

Earlier, Eduardo Perez expressed disappointment, stating the match against Arema FC should have been a momentum for revival.

"We dominated and created many opportunities that should have secured victory, and the first half was one of our best performances this season," he said.

According to him, the team had prepared thorough analysis and strategies to pressure the opponent from the start. The target was three points to restore the team's confidence.

“We played better and had many chances, but this is football—goals are what count,” he continued.

The 44-year-old coach also expressed sadness at failing to deliver victory to the thousands of supporters filling GBT (Gelora Bung Tomo).

League Standings as Serious Alarm

Persebaya currently sits eighth in the Super League provisional standings with 16 points from 11 matches.

Despite having a promising +9 goal difference, consistency remains the main issue with four wins, four draws, and three losses.

This situation makes the coaching change a strategic decision. The new coach, to be announced soon, is expected to boost the team's performance and restore the aggressive playing identity always expected by Bonek.
