The Italian National Team faces a fresh blow in their pursuit of a 2026 World Cup ticket. In the latest FIFA ranking release, Gli Azzurri officially dropped out of the top 10, falling to 12th place. This outcome increases pressure ahead of the playoffs they will contest next March.
The rankings were released on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 - earlier than usual - as they form the basis for determining seedings in the 2026 World Cup Intercontinental Playoff draw.
This format makes every point crucial, with Italy's new position becoming a major focal point among European contenders.

Spain Remain Unstoppable at the Summit
Spain retains its world No. 1 status with 1877.18 points, despite a slight decrease from the previous month.
La Roja's consistency after a decisive 5-0 victory over Georgia and a 2-2 draw against Turkey placed them above Argentina and France in the top three.
Argentina holds second place with 1873.33 points, followed by France in third. England maintained fourth position, while Brazil climbed two spots to fifth after positive results during the international break.
This shift pushed Portugal down to sixth and the Netherlands to seventh. Belgium remains steady in eighth, while Germany and Croatia re-entered the top 10 thanks to consecutive wins in international fixtures.
Gli Azzurri Slip to 12th Position
For Italy, this month's ranking movement is bitter. Falling three places to 12th marks their first exit from FIFA's elite zone in over a year.
Morocco has now overtaken Italy, rising to 11th after accumulating significant points from recent matches.
This ranking impacts not only prestige but directly affects World Cup seeding status.
Should Italy qualify through March's playoffs, they could join Croatia in Pot 2.
Pot 1 is already filled by hosts United States, Canada, and Mexico plus the nine highest-ranked teams.
FIFA Rankings Determine World Cup Pathway
The updated rankings confirm the intensifying competition for the upcoming World Cup.
Seeding status will significantly influence the group stage landscape, with the draw scheduled for December 5 in Washington.
For Italy, Croatia and Germany's return to the top 10 tightens the competition. Every European Zone playoff match now carries greater consequences, determining their placement in the group stage draw.
Indonesia Stays at 122nd
Meanwhile, the Indonesian National Team remains stagnant at 122nd globally after not playing international matches during the recent break.
