"When you end up with a bad result it's very easy for people to say I made the wrong call. That said, I still do not regret this decision at all," he continued.

Remarkably, Tuchel went on to describe the semi-final clash against Argentina as one of England's strongest performances across the entire tournament.

"For me this was one of our best performances at the 2026 World Cup -- in fact, it might have been our very best showing," he stated.

Tuchel pointed out that England's path to the semi-final was far from straightforward, having faced tough opposition, endured long travel schedules, competed at high altitude, and played through difficult weather conditions throughout the tournament.

"Even with all that, we overcame every single one of those challenges. And here tonight, we were so, so close to getting the result we wanted," he concluded.

This defeat extends England's long wait for a first senior World Cup title since their 1966 triumph. Meanwhile, Argentina advance to the final full of confidence, as they target successfully defending the trophy they won four years prior in Qatar.
