Qatar national team secured one crucial point after holding Switzerland to a 1-1 draw in the 2026 World Cup Group B match at Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara, United States, early morning WIB on Sunday, 14 June 2026.
Qatar avoided defeat thanks to a dramatic goal from Boualem Khoukhi during Injury time. This goal denied Switzerland what looked like a certain victory, after the Swiss side had taken the lead first through Breel Embolo's penalty kick.
This Draw Result has opened up the competition in Group B. All teams in the group now each hold one point, after the earlier match between ANTARA Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina also finished with the identical 1-1 scoreline, according to official FIFA data.

Qatar actually applied immediate pressure right from the start of the match. Just two minutes into the game, a mistake by Manuel Akanji nearly resulted in a goal after Edmilson Junior managed to fire off a shot. However, Switzerland Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel reacted quickly to protect his goal.
Switzerland responded with a number of chances created by Dan Ndoye in the 5th and 10th minutes. While they managed to penetrate the opponent's defence, their finishing attempts were still unable to change the scoreboard.
Murat Yakin's squad finally broke the deadlock in the 17th minute. The referee awarded a penalty after Qatar goalkeeper Mahmud Abunada fouled Remo Freuler inside the penalty box.
Breel Embolo, entrusted as the penalty taker, executed his duty perfectly to put Switzerland ahead 1-0.
Trailing by one goal spurred Qatar to increase their attacking intensity. Shortly before half time, Edmilson Junior got another golden opportunity, but Kobel once again produced an outstanding save to deny the chance.
Entering the second half, Switzerland dominated ball possession and continuously pressed Qatar's defensive line. Nevertheless, Qatar's disciplined defensive organisation left Granit Xhaka and his teammates struggling to create clear-cut goalscoring chances.
Switzerland actually had several opportunities to double their lead. One of the best chances came in the 75th minute, when Ruben Vargas chose to shoot from a tight angle instead of passing to a teammate who was in a far more advantageous position.
Just as victory appeared within Switzerland's grasp, Qatar produced a late surprise in stoppage time. Boualem Khoukhi met an incoming cross with an accurate header that Kobel could not stop.
This goal levelled the score at 1-1, and ensured Qatar took home one valuable point from their opening Group B fixture.
This result makes the race to advance even more compelling, as every team in Group B still holds an equal chance of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup knockout stage.
