A major step awaits Frans Putros, the full-back for Persib Bandung. With consistent performances for this Super League club, he stands a chance to make history as the first active player from Indonesia's domestic competition to feature in the FIFA World Cup final tournament.

This opportunity arose after Putros was included in Iraq's provisional national squad for preparations leading to FIFA World Cup 2026. The call-up was officially announced via the Iraq National Team's verified account on Wednesday.

Iraq head coach Graham Arnold listed Putros among 34 players scheduled to attend a centralized training camp in Spain starting 22 May 2026.

This training camp forms a critical part of Iraq's preparation for the high-stakes competition waiting at the World Cup.

For Indonesian Football, this call-up for Putros carries unique significance.

Even though he represents the Iraq national side, his status as an active player in the Indonesian League opens the potential for new history for the domestic competition, which has historically had almost no direct representation on Football's biggest global stage.

Alongside Putros, Graham Arnold also called up other defensive players: Maytham Jabbar, Zaid Tahseen, Akam Hashim, Manaf Younis, Rebin Solaka, Mustafa Sa'adoun, Ahmed Yahya, Ahmed Maknzi, Merchas Doski, and Hussein Ali.

For the Goalkeeper positions, Arnold summoned Kamil Saadi, Fahad Talib, Ahmed Basil, and Jalal Hasan. Meanwhile Iraq's midfield will be filled with a combination of experienced players and emerging young talent including Zidane Iqbal, Amir Al-Ammari, Ibrahim Bayesh, and Ahmed Qassem.

On the attacking line, Iraq will continue relying on established names well recognised across the Asian continent: Mohannad Ali, Aymen Hussein, Ali Jassim, and Ali Youssef, to navigate the tight competition during the group phase.

Iraq is drawn into Group I alongside three major global football powers: Norway, France and Senegal. This group is widely predicted to be an extremely difficult pool for Iraq, especially with France listed as one of the pre-tournament title favourites.

Putros being named in this provisional squad confirms that his performances with Persib have received serious recognition from Iraq's coaching team.

The Danish-Iraqi player has maintained consistent form throughout the season, and established himself as one of the core key figures in Persib Bandung's defensive line.

Right now, all of Putros' focus is directed towards the upcoming training camp in Spain. If he can prove himself to Graham Arnold over the coming weeks, this Persib defender may carry the name of the Indonesian League onto the 2026 World Cup stage.
