This impressive victory saw Die Fohlen (Gladbach's nickname) conclude the season in 12th position on the final Bundesliga Standings with 38 total points. Match Progression
Deployed as left centre-back in a three-man defensive system, Diks delivered a solid performance. The home side immediately took attacking initiative and played aggressively right from the first half kick-off whistle.
The deadlock broke in the 14th minute. Starting from a long throw-in routine that sparked chaos inside Hoffenheim's defensive area, the loose ball was struck first time by Hugo Bolin with a lethal volley that Goalkeeper Oliver Baumann could not reach.
Only nine minutes later, Gladbach doubled their lead. Yannick Engelhardt made a sharp penetrating run down the right flank before playing a cut-back pass into the goalmouth. A poor clearance from Hoffenheim's backline was immediately punished by Haris Tabakovic to take the score to 2-0.
As the second half began, disaster struck the visiting side. Hoffenheim were forced to play with 10 men early in the half after one of their players was sent off by the referee for shoving Kevin Diks.
The numerical advantage allowed Gladbach to press even more freely. In the 64th minute, Tabakovic found the net once again, however the goal was disallowed after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review confirmed the player was in an offside position.
The long-awaited moment for Indonesian supporters finally arrived in the 81st minute. Receiving a well-weighted pass from Nico Elvedi just outside the penalty area, Kevin Diks unleashed a perfectly placed rocket shot. The ball flew hard into the top right corner of Hoffenheim's goal with Baumann completely unable to make a save. This strike served as the perfect closing to the Garuda defender's outstanding campaign this season.
Shortly before the final whistle, Robin Hack also added his name to the scoresheet to complete Gladbach's comprehensive 4-0 victory.
