In Japan, the tourism experience doesn't stop at landscapes or historic temples. It can also be felt in a bowl of warm ramen, the tea brewing ritual, and even the small details of food presentation rich in cultural meaning. This approach has captured the attention of the Ministry of Tourism for deeper study.

The Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) is interested in learning from Japan through the Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) in developing tourism, particularly in the field of gastronomy.

“We see how Japan has successfully made gastronomy a key part of its tourism appeal. Indonesia is also developing a similar approach through the Wonderful Indonesia Gastronomy program," said Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Widiyanti hopes the Japan Tourism Agency (JTA), led by Commissioner Shigeki Murata, can become a partner in developing the gastronomy network.

This step is not without reason. Japan has long been known as one of the destinations that has successfully elevated its culinary offerings into a tourism identity.

From traditional markets to Michelin-starred restaurants, the gastronomic experience in Japan is an inseparable part of the travel journey.

Widiyanti conveyed Indonesia's interest in learning about Japan's strategies for developing the tourism sector, including the Sakura Country's ambitious target of attracting 60 million Foreign Tourists by 2030.

This strategy is considered relevant for Indonesia, which is also strengthening its tourism competitiveness through the development of quality destinations and sustainable tourist flow management.

Furthermore, she emphasized that gastronomy is not just about food, but a representation of a nation's identity.

Japan is seen as having successfully made its cuisine one of the main attractions strengthening its global tourism image.

On the other hand, Indonesia is also moving forward. Currently, Indonesia is leading the development of the ASEAN Gastronomy Network. Its goal is to connect culinary richness, agriculture, and cultural traditions as part of the tourism experience in Southeast Asia.

Against this background, this meeting is hoped to be more than just formal dialogue. Widiyanti wants to make it a momentum to deepen strategic cooperation, share experiences, expand networks, and design a more sustainable future for tourism.
