Thailand and Tajikistan have joined the list of participants for the 2027 Asian Cup after securing their tickets from the third round of qualification. With these two latest additions, a total of 23 countries have secured their spots, leaving only one final slot still up for grabs.

Thailand confirmed their place convincingly. A decisive 2-1 victory over Turkmenistan sealed their qualification and underlined their dominance in this stage.

On the other hand, Tajikistan took a more dramatic path. A 1-1 draw against the Philippines was enough to send them through to the finals. Tajikistan qualified on goal difference over the Philippines.

Before Thailand and Tajikistan secured their tickets, three other teams had already booked their places earlier. Singapore, Vietnam, and Syria advanced as group winners even before the final matches were played, reflecting their dominance throughout the qualification phase.

Now, only one last ticket remains, to be decided through the duel between Lebanon and Yemen next June.

That match will conclude the lengthy qualification series and determine the final participant list.

Most of the slots were actually filled earlier via the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, which also doubled as the Asian Cup qualifiers. Seventeen teams successfully qualified through this route, including the Indonesian National Team.

The Garuda Squad secured their place after an impressive performance in the previous round, finishing as runners-up in Group F behind Iraq and ahead of Vietnam and the Philippines.

One other slot automatically belongs to hosts Saudi Arabia, who will be the tournament center.

Interestingly, the 2027 edition could potentially be the last one held in an odd-numbered year.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) is planning to change the calendar so the Asian Cup returns to being played in even-numbered years, aligning it with other major tournaments like the Euro and Copa America.
