The coaching staff of the Indonesian National Team has gained experienced reinforcement. English manager Simon Grayson has officially joined as an assistant coach to help prepare the Garuda Squad ahead of the FIFA Series 2026 later this month.

Through a post on his personal Instagram account, Grayson expressed his enthusiasm about starting his new role with the Indonesian National Team.

"I'm really excited to be joining the Indonesian National Team as an assistant coach for the upcoming matches in the FIFA window against Bulgaria and St Kitts and Nevis in Jakarta," Grayson wrote in his post.

The arrival of the 56-year-old coach will strengthen the Garuda National Team coaching staff led by John Herdman

For Grayson, the opportunity to work at the national team level is an experience he has long awaited after spending the majority of his coaching career with clubs.

"I'm really looking forward to working with head coach John Herdman and his staff. This is a new experience that I've been looking forward to for a long time after managing teams for so long, especially in England."

Grayson also believes involvement at the national team level will give him a new perspective in his coaching career.

"Being involved at the national team level will certainly further enhance me as a coach."

The name Grayson is not unfamiliar in English Football. He has a long track record managing several clubs, including Leeds United and Sunderland

Additionally, he has also managed Blackpool, Preston North End, Huddersfield Town, and Fleetwood Town.

In recent years, Grayson also tried his experience in Asia by coaching Indian clubs Bengaluru FC and Lalitpur City FC (Nepal).

Before switching to coaching in 2005, Grayson was a professional footballer who spent his entire playing career in England.

This extensive experience is expected to provide an important contribution to the Indonesian national team, which is preparing itself to face a series of international matches.
