Cristiano Ronaldo has taken another major step in the world of Football. This time, it's not through goals or trophies, but through purchasing club shares. The Portuguese megastar has officially become a shareholder in the Spanish club UD Almería, adding to the list of active footballers beginning to build influence off the pitch.

Through his Sports investment company, CR7 Sports Investment, Ronaldo acquired a 25 percent stake in Almería.

Although the investment value wasn't disclosed, this move marks a new chapter in his career spanning over two decades.

For Ronaldo, this decision isn't sudden. He has long expressed his desire to keep contributing to football after his playing career ends.

"I've long had the ambition to contribute to football from outside the pitch," stated Ronaldo in his official announcement.

According to Ronaldo, UD Almeria is a Spanish club with a strong foundation and growth potential.

"I hope to work alongside the team to support this club's new era," he continued.

The Role of SMC Group and Saudi Footprint

Ronaldo's entry as a minority shareholder is linked to majority stakeholder SMC Group, a Saudi Arabian investment company led by Mohammed Al-Kherejil.

SMC Group has held 75 percent of Almería shares since May 2025 after taking over from previous Turkish owners.

Ronaldo's ties with Saudi investors aren't new. Since joining Al Nassr in 2023, he's been a key face of Saudi Arabia's ambitious global football project. Now, this network extends to Spain through Almería.

Promotion Target to LaLiga

Almería is in a crucial phase. The club has played in Segunda División for two seasons after relegation from LaLiga.

Currently, Almería holds third place in the standings with 48 points, just two points behind leaders Racing Santander.

Ronaldo's presence is expected to boost the club's commercial appeal and strengthen promotion ambitions to Spain's top flight.

Despite holding only 25 percent shares, Ronaldo's global influence as a football icon is projected to significantly impact branding and long-term investment.

Following Legends' Footsteps

Ronaldo isn't the first player to become a club owner. Predecessors include stars like Ronaldo Nazario (Real Valladolid), David Beckham (Inter Miami), Kylian Mbappé (Caen), Gerard Piqué (FC Andorra), and N'Golo Kanté (Royal Excelsior).

Now, Cristiano Ronaldo joins this list. Differently, he remains active at top-level play while building his football Business empire in Europe.

This step could form a crucial foundation for Ronaldo's post-retirement future. For now, Almería's focus is returning to LaLiga.
