Inter Miami CF's preseason tour has suddenly changed direction. The trial match originally scheduled to take place in Puerto Rico has been postponed, with one name becoming the center of attention: Lionel Messi.

Inter Miami was previously scheduled to face Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle on Friday, February 13, 2026 at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium. However, on Wednesday, February 11, the club announced a schedule change to February 26, 2026.

It was later revealed that this decision was closely tied to Messi's fitness condition. La Pulga experienced physical issues during last Weekend's match against Barcelona SC. He was even substituted before the match concluded.

"Hello everyone. I want to send a message to the people of Puerto Rico, both those planning to attend training and the match. During the last game in Ecuador, I felt discomfort, which led to my substitution before the final whistle," Lionel Messi wrote on social media.

A hamstring injury caused Messi to miss the team's training session on Wednesday. This situation automatically becomes the primary concern ahead of the new MLS season.

"Together with the club and organizers, we decided to postpone this match. I hope it can be rescheduled so we can meet, and we can visit you soon," Messi stated.

Inter Miami's Focus: Messi's Condition Ahead of MLS

This preseason tour forms a crucial part of Inter Miami's preparations for the new Major League Soccer (MLS) season.

Javier Mascherano's squad is scheduled to open the competition against Los Angeles FC on February 21.

With the competition schedule approaching, Messi's condition becomes Inter Miami's top priority.
