A violent incident at the amateur competition level in Indonesia has now gained international attention. One of the influential Sports media outlets in Italy has highlighted the case of the "Kung Fu Kick" in the Liga 4 East Java Zone.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reported the news through its official social media account, describing the event as a shocking incident from Indonesia.
The incident occurred during a Liga 4 Round of 32 match in the East Java Zone between PS Putra Jaya Pasuruan and Perseta Tulungagung at Gelora Bangkalan Stadium, Madura, on Monday, January 5, 2026.
In its coverage, La Gazzetta dello Sport expressed shock.
"Shocking event in Indonesia: a Football player from Perseta 1970 endured one of the worst and most dangerous acts imaginable, suffering broken ribs,"
This European media spotlight has elevated the case beyond a local issue, turning it into a negative example of football violence that could damage a nation's competition image.
During the incident, PS Putra Jaya player Muhammad Hilmi Gimnastiar kicked Perseta player Firman Nugraha in the chest.
Hilmi intentionally kicked his opponent while contesting for the ball, an act that went viral and drew widespread condemnation.
The Indonesian football Association (PSSI) imposed its heaviest penalty: Hilmi received a lifetime ban from football.
For Indonesian Football, this attention from La Gazzetta dello Sport is a double-edged sword.
On one hand, it shows domestic competitions are now monitored globally. On the other, the spotlight came not for achievements but for a violent incident that undermined Sportsmanship values.
This case serves as a reminder that building football's reputation involves not just game quality, but also maintaining competitions that are safe, fair, and dignified—even at the lowest levels of the league pyramid.
