Manchester City failed to close in on Premier League leaders Arsenal after being held to a 0-0 draw by Sunderland. This draw leaves City four points behind The Gunners, who previously defeated Aston Villa.

City started brightly with Bernardo Silva's close-range flick, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Sunderland's defense then effectively neutralized City's attacks.
Sunderland even created dangerous chances through Brian Brobbey, though his shot was saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma. Another opportunity came from Eliezer Mayenda, but his finish lacked accuracy.
Sunderland appealed for a penalty after Simon Adingra went down following a challenge with Rayan Cherki in the box, but the referee saw no infringement.
City responded with a chance for Erling Haaland who found space inside the penalty area. However, his shot went straight at goalkeeper Robin Roefs, who made a quick save.

City relentlessly pressed for a winner, only for Roefs to again prove decisive - the Sunderland keeper brilliantly blocking Tijjani Reijnders' shot from inside the box.
When the final whistle blew, Manchester City had to settle for a draw. The single point keeps them second with 41 points from 19 matches, four points behind Arsenal.
Sunderland sit seventh with 29 points, trailing Manchester United (6th) and Chelsea (5th) by just one point, and remain four points behind Liverpool in the Champions League spots.
