Indonesia has made new history in the world of sports. On October 19-25, 2025, the Homeland will host the 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, a prestigious event held for the first time in Southeast Asia.
Moreover, this championship also marks the inaugural edition following the Paris 2024 Olympics. This makes it a proving ground for the world's gymnasts to maintain their peak performance or rebuild their reputation on the international stage.

This global competition features two main disciplines: Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) and Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG).
Unlike previous years, the 2025 edition does not feature a team category. Gymnasts will compete solely in the All-Around class and on individual apparatuses, making every performance a true test of individual skill.
All-Around: The Gymnast's True Crown
The All-Around event is often called the "true crown" in artistic gymnastics. Here, gymnasts are challenged to perform on all apparatuses – six for men and four for women – with the highest total score determining the champion.
This title isn't just about technique, but also consistency, rhythm, and mental composure. One small mistake can shatter gold medal hopes, while a perfect performance across all apparatuses signifies the world's most complete gymnast.
Men's Category: Six Tests of Fortitude
Men's Artistic Gymnastics is renowned for showcasing strength, endurance, and high-precision technique. The six main apparatuses contested are:
- Floor Exercise: A blend of flips, twists, and explosive power without musical accompaniment on a 12x12 meter mat.
- Pommel Horse: A test of absolute rhythm and balance, where a single error can ruin an entire routine.
- Still Rings: A symbol of extreme strength, demanding extraordinary upper-body stability.
- Vault: Explosive action in seconds, from a fast sprint to a precise landing.
- Parallel Bars: A combination of strength and fluidity, with smooth transitions and landings being key to the score.
- Horizontal Bar: The most dramatic apparatus, featuring high swings and daring aerial releases before a perfect landing.
Each apparatus tests a different aspect of the athlete's body and mind, making this category one of the most thrilling spectacles in the arena.
Women's Category: A Blend of Grace and Power
Meanwhile, Women's Artistic Gymnastics displays a fusion of graceful movement and explosive power. The four main apparatuses contested are:
- Vault: Speed and precision combined with elegant style upon landing.
- Uneven Bars: Rapid transitions between two bars of different heights, showcasing extreme agility and seamless movement.
- Balance Beam: At just 10 centimeters wide, this apparatus is a stage for mental courage and total body control.
- Floor Exercise: The most popular event, combining acrobatics, dance, and music, making it an expression of artistry alongside physical power.
Here, gymnasts are not just athletes but artists telling their story through every leap and turn.
More Than Just a Competition
The 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships is not merely an event for winning medals; it is a celebration of human movement art – about how body, mind, and courage combine to defy gravity and, sometimes, their own fear.
On a beam as narrow as a palm, on rings swinging in the air, to the floor where they seem to float weightlessly, the gymnasts show that this sport is the poetry of the body in motion.
For spectators at the Indonesia Arena or those watching through screens, understanding each event means sharing in its meaning: that behind every flip and landing, there is always a story about the courage to fall, and the art of rising again. (Antara)
