Surabaya – The first commercial road running event ever held in the Hero City, "Suroboyo 10K", has already made a historic milestone on its very first debut. This long distance running competition not only successfully gathered the enthusiasm of thousands of athletics enthusiasts, but also set a completely new benchmark for race track quality standards across Indonesia.

Held on Sunday (7/6/2026), records show around 400 runners out of the total 2,750 participants that filled the entire race route crossed the finish line with an impressive sub-45 minute time. This kind of mass achievement is extremely rare for a newly launched running event.

Key Success Factor: Secured Race Route & Wide Road Infrastructure
The high number of participants that posted strong finishing times is not considered a mere coincidence. Satyo Haryo Wibisono, Head of Road Race Commission for the All-Indonesia Athletics Association Indonesia (PB PASI), confirmed that near-perfect track management was the main driver behind the athletes' outstanding performances.

"The running track was properly secured. Surabaya has wide city roads that allowed us to safely separate running space from regular road users without problems," Satyo told journalists as quoted by Antara News Agency in Surabaya.

Satyo added that on-site technical evaluation showed this event achieved 95% route security rating. This guaranteed safety and unobstructed running space allowed athletes to maintain consistent pace throughout the race without worrying about city traffic disruptions. This positive result is expected to spread across national and international running communities, proving that Surabaya hosts a 10 kilometer track with great potential for breaking speed records.

Nefriana Sets New Personal Best Record
The real impact of this properly secured Suroboyo 10K route was confirmed directly by national elite runner Nefriana Afriance Daik (23). This talented athlete from East Kalimantan, who previously won bronze medal for women's 10km at the 2024 National Sports Week (PON), finished first in her category with a remarkable time of 35 minutes 40 seconds.

For Nefriana, this finishing time in Surabaya became the new career personal best record. She praised the organisers for properly securing the race route, which allowed her to stay fully focused while competing for the top podium.

Apart from the road technical factors, Nefriana also highlighted Surabaya's natural conditions on that race morning. "I think Surabaya's weather this morning was very supportive for running. This also went well with the regular training routine I have been doing," she stated happily. The perfect combination of athlete physical preparation, cool morning air and safe unobstructed track became the winning formula for this new record.

On Track To Become A New Sport Tourism Icon
Following this debut that exceeded all expectations, PB PASI has officially recommended that "Suroboyo 10K" be immediately included in the annual national sports official agenda. The organisers' commitment and attention to technical details for this first edition is regarded as a very strong foundation. Satyo Haryo Wibisono also expressed confidence that upcoming editions will attract elite international runners aiming to improve their global personal timing records.

Furthermore, if this positive momentum is maintained and developed professionally, "Suroboyo 10K" will not remain just an ordinary sports competition. This event has great projection to transform into a new sports-based Tourism (Sport Tourism) icon for Surabaya. The arrival of thousands of runners, their official teams and families from across the country and abroad will certainly bring positive Domino economic impact for the hotel, culinary sectors as well as Local MSME actors in the Hero City.

Moving forward, the biggest challenge lies in consistency. City authorities and organisers are expected to keep collaborating to maintain this high standard of route security, in order to preserve Surabaya's reputation as the host of one of the fastest and safest running tracks in Southeast Asia.
