Vesak 2026 in Jakarta: HI Roundabout Glows Through a Light Festival Filled with Messages of Peace

Jakarta once again presents a tourist attraction that combines elements of culture, spirituality, and public entertainment. To commemorate Vesak Day 2570 Buddhist Era, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the Department of Tourism and Creative Economy is holding "Illumination of Jakarta, Glow of Peace" at the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout precinct.

Running from 28 May to 1 June 2026, this event is far more than just a religious celebration. This festival also functions as an open cultural interaction space for the general public, while delivering a unique night-time tourism experience at one of the capital city's most iconic landmarks.

For both visitors and local Jakarta residents, the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout will be transformed into a convergence point for diverse art and cultural elements. Artistic light installations, live cultural performances, and guided spiritual reflection activities form the core attractions available throughout the full duration of the event.

Head of DKI Jakarta Provincial Tourism and Creative Economy Department Andhika Permata confirmed that this year's Vesak commemoration serves as a key milestone to showcase Jakarta's identity as an inclusive, high-tolerance multicultural city.

"The 2026 Vesak celebration is a critical opportunity to present Jakarta as an open, peaceful city built upon a spirit of collective togetherness," stated Andhika Permata in an official government press release published in Jakarta on Sunday, 31 May 2026.

As explained by Andhika, this programme was designed as a shared community celebration involving all layers of society. It is open not only to Buddhist worshippers, but also interfaith communities, creative economy workers, and any member of the public wishing to join the festive atmosphere.

The full event schedule includes group prayer and silent meditation sessions, traditional cultural arts performances, heritage showcases, and custom light installations that illuminate the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout after sunset. This event is delivered in official partnership with the Indonesian Buddhist Community Association (PERMABUDHI) and Indonesian Buddhist Representatives Assembly (WALUBI).

"Through this cross-sector collaboration, we intend for this event to deliver a memorable Cultural Experience and spiritual journey for all attendees, while driving positive growth for Jakarta's tourism and creative economy sectors," added Andhika.

Beyond serving as a Vesak commemoration, this festival is also intended to reinforce Jakarta's standing as a leading urban Tourism Destination that delivers year-round diverse cultural attractions.

Lucky Wulandari, Head of Marketing and Attractions Division at the DKI Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Department, confirmed that the art installations and custom lighting scheme at the roundabout were designed both to draw visitor attention and communicate the core message of universal peace at the heart of Vesak observance.

This festival provides a compelling new activity option for anyone wishing to experience Jakarta after dark. Alongside viewing the performances and visual installations, all attendees will be able to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of shared community at this iconic capital public space.

Through the 2570 BE / 2026 Vesak commemoration, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government also extends an open invitation to all members of the public to uphold harmony and mutual tolerance in daily life.
