Indonesia's dominance in the Thomas Cup was built through two golden periods. The first period was from 1970 to 1979 with four consecutive titles.
The second period was even more impressive. Indonesia secured five consecutive titles from 1994 to 2002. This era produced many legends and affirmed the Red and White's supremacy in the men's sector.
Beyond the number of titles, Indonesia's consistency is also evident from its record of 22 appearances in the finals. Not many countries can maintain a competitive level for decades like Indonesia.
However, competition is now fiercer. China has emerged as the toughest rival with a collection of 11 titles, including a dominant five consecutive wins from 2004 to 2012.
In the latest 2024 edition, China became Champion again, reminding everyone that the battle for the title is now more intense.
Aside from Indonesia and China, only a few countries have ever lifted the Thomas Cup. Malaysia has collected five titles, the last in 1992. Meanwhile, Japan, Denmark, and India each have one title.
Denmark holds a special place in history as the only European representative ever to become champion. They achieved it in 2016 and will now host the 2026 edition at the Forum Horsens.
China Dominates the Uber Cup
In the women's sector, the Uber Cup is dominated by China with 16 titles, followed by Japan with six titles. Indonesia has three titles, won in 1975, 1994, and 1996.
Nevertheless, Indonesia remains an important force in the women's sector with a total of 16 appearances in the semifinals, including being a finalist in the 2024 edition.
Now, entering the 2026 Thomas and Uber Cup, this great history serves as both capital and a challenge. Indonesia arrives not only with a big name but also with the determination to reaffirm itself as the king of the world Thomas Cup.
