Amidst a still-shining career, Lionel Messi received an unusual honor in modern football. Inter Miami CF decided to immortalize his name at their new stadium.
The MLS club will name one of the stands at Nu Stadium as "Leo Messi Stand", a symbolic move affirming the megastar's extraordinary impact since arriving in the United States in summer 2023.
"Inter Miami CF proudly announces the 'Leo Messi Stand', where our No. 10 and captain will become part of something rare and unique in global sports: an active athlete playing in his home stadium with a stand named in his honor," stated the club via their official website on Friday, March 27.

In global Sports landscapes, such honors are typically bestowed after a player retires, as nostalgia or recognition of their legacy. Yet Inter Miami chose a different path, placing Messi in a category transcending that tradition.
"Recognizing someone doesn't always mean closing a chapter. Sometimes, it's about realizing you're witnessing something unique."
Specifically, the "Leo Messi Stand" will cover sectors 117 to 121 in the lower stadium section and 217 to 223 in the upper section. This area will witness every magical touch by the captain on the pitch.
Since joining, Messi has transformed the club significantly. He led Inter Miami to their first Leagues Cup title, then secured the 2024 Supporters' Shield and 2025 MLS Cup. Beyond that, he helped the team set the record for most points in a single MLS season.
Individually, Messi made history by winning MLS MVP awards in 2024 and 2025, becoming the first player to win the honor consecutively.
His statistics speak loudly: 82 goals and 53 assists in 94 appearances across all competitions, making him both the club's all-time top scorer and assist provider.
The Nu Stadium inauguration is scheduled for April 4 during an MLS match against Austin FC. This moment not only marks a new era for the club but also serves as a rare tribute stage for an active player still writing his own history.
At 38 years old, Messi isn't finished. In Miami, his name echoes not just on the field but is now permanently etched in the stands, where fans will continue witnessing magic.
