Persija Jakarta concluded its activities in the Super League Transfer Market 2025/2026 with a strategic move. The capital club officially announced the signing of Cyrus Margono on the transfer window's final day, a crucial addition to strengthen their goalkeeping department.

The Indonesian-Iranian goalkeeper signed a 2.5-year contract with Macan Kemayoran. Before arriving in Jakarta, Cyrus gained experience in Kosovo's top flight with KF Dukagjini. His name is also familiar in Europe, having played for Panathinaikos B in Greece between 2021 and 2024.

Cyrus's arrival provides Persija with variation and depth under the crossbar. The United States-born goalkeeper will compete with two senior names, Carlos Eduardo and Andritany Ardhiyasa, for the starting position.

Persija's Director, Mohamad Prapanca, emphasized this signing isn't merely a short-term solution. Cyrus's age of 24 is considered ideal for club investment over the next two to three seasons.

"Cyrus is a quality young goalkeeper with international experience and character that fits the team's needs."

"We hope his presence will add strength and squad depth, becoming a key part in building the team's foundation for the next two to three seasons," stated Prapanca.

On the player's side, Cyrus expressed unreserved enthusiasm. After officially obtaining his Indonesian Passport in March 2024, he declared readiness for the challenge with one of the nation's most historic clubs.

"I'm absolutely prepared to embrace this challenge with Persija," said Cyrus.

"I'm thrilled to come to Jakarta and join Persija as a major Indonesian team. I'll give my best in every training session," he added.

Cyrus's presence also opens international opportunities. He could potentially become a goalkeeping option for Indonesia's National Team ahead of the 2026 ASEAN Cup. The tournament is expected to proceed without diaspora players based in Europe.

This situation makes absences almost certain for names like Emil Audero and Maarten Paes. Consequently, coach John Herdman will rely more heavily on Super League goalkeepers. Alongside longtime regulars Nadeo Argawinata and Ernando Ari, and the in-form Teja Paku Alam at Persib Bandung, Cyrus could become an additional alternative.

Moreover, the 190cm goalkeeper has previously been monitored by Indonesia's National Team during both Shin Tae-yong's tenure and Patrick Kluivert's era. Though his debut chance hasn't yet materialized, consistent performances with Persija could open the door to international level.
