Jaja and Ezra Walian Rumored Heading to Persija, Mauricio Souza Speaks Out

Persija Jakarta coach Mauricio Souza has addressed rumors linking the Kemayoran Tigers to Dewa United midfielder Hugo Gomes dos Santos Silva (Jaja). The speculation has intensified as the mid-season transfer window approaches.

Jaja's name reportedly appeared on Persija's radar to bolster their midfield. This emerged amid the team's need for squad depth to maintain consistency in the second half of the competition. However, Mauricio Souza emphasized these remain unconfirmed rumors.

"Everything said so far is merely speculation (player transfer rumors). We will discuss this with management," stated Mauricio Souza during a press conference after Persija's match against Persijap at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta, on Saturday, January 3, 2026.

The Brazilian coach acknowledged Jaja's technical and tactical abilities, calling him "a good player" whose game he admires. Still, Mauricio noted transfer rumors often lack solid foundations: "Anyone can write anything on the internet."

Mauricio Souza confirmed no concrete talks have occurred regarding Persija's January transfer targets, including the Jaja links: "Nothing is true. There's no news about Jaja joining Persija. He plays for a big club."

Nevertheless, Persija Jakarta will actively participate in the winter transfer window. Management is evaluating squad depth needs to maintain performance stability in the league's top-tier competition.

Beyond Jaja, Persija is reportedly monitoring other targets like Persik Kediri captain Ezra Walian. No official announcements have been made regarding potential transfers.

Notably, Jaja isn't unfamiliar to Mauricio Souza, having played under him at Madura United during the 2023/2024 season. This prior connection fuels reunion speculation at Persija, though it remains unsubstantiated.
