Persib Bandung affirmed their dominance in the Super League 2025/2026 after defeating their eternal rivals Persija Jakarta with a narrow 1-0 scoreline in Week 17 on Sunday, January 11, 2026. Playing at Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium, Maung Bandung secured the win through an early goal by Beckham Putra, created just five minutes into the match.

Persib's opening goal stemmed from an error in anticipation by the Persija defense. Bruno Tubarao failed to secure a cross aimed into the penalty box, leaving the loose ball rolling freely in front of the goal. Beckham Putra, positioned ideally, immediately seized the moment to beat Carlos Eduardo without mercy.

After falling behind, Persija tried to rally and began taking the initiative in attack. One of their best chances came from Maxwell, who found himself one-on-one with Teja Paku Alam. However, the Persib goalkeeper displayed top-class reflexes by blocking the striker's shot.

Persija's pressure peaked again in the 42nd minute through a fierce strike by Allano from outside the penalty box. Unfortunately, the ball only hit the post. The rebound was attempted by Eksel, but imperfect control wasted the chance, allowing Teja to secure the ball easily.

Despite appearing more dominant in ball possession, Persija failed to find an effective finishing touch. Persib managed to maintain their 1-0 lead until halftime with solid defensive organization.

Entering the second half, Persija sought to increase the tempo of the game in pursuit of an equalizer. However, the situation changed drastically in the 53rd minute when Bruno Tubarao was shown a red card. The Persija defender was deemed to have deliberately stamped on the foot of Beckham Putra, who was already down after a duel – a foul the referee could not tolerate.

The numerical advantage allowed Persib even more freedom to control the flow of the match. A golden opportunity arose in the 56th minute through a header by Julio Cesar, but Carlos Eduardo once again became the savior for Persija with a crucial block.

The Persija goalkeeper showed impressive performance again in the 77th minute by denying Ramon Souza's shot. Without those crucial saves, the score could have widened in favor of the hosts.

Playing with ten men made it difficult for Persija to penetrate Persib's disciplined defense. Meanwhile, Maung Bandung created several clear-cut chances, though no additional goals came before the final whistle.

This 1-0 victory ensures Persib Bandung seize the top spot in the Super League Standings 2025/2026 and simultaneously clinch the mid-season championship title. Persib now has 38 points, one point ahead of Borneo FC, who drop to second place. Persija Jakarta themselves slid down to third place with 35 points.
