Persib Bandung coach Bojan Hodak emphasized the importance of emotional control to his players ahead of the prestigious match against Persija Jakarta in Week 17 of the 2025/26 Super League. This Classic Derby will be held at the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium (GBLA) on Sunday, January 11, 2026, in an atmosphere certain to be filled with pressure.

Hodak acknowledged that matches against Persija always bring high intensity, not only on the field but also emotionally. Therefore, his approach isn't just about pumping up spirit, but rather about keeping the players calm to stay focused on the game plan.

“Because of that, I don't need to motivate the players anymore. In fact, I have to make them calmer and less emotional,” said Hodak in Bandung on Saturday, January 10, 2026.

According to the Croatian coach, Persib versus Persija is no ordinary match. The long-standing rivalry between the two clubs makes every encounter intense and demands maturity in decision-making on the field.

Hodak believes calmness will be a crucial factor, especially given the very close positions of both teams in the temporary Standings. Persib and Persija both have 35 points and still have a great chance of securing the mid-season Champion status for the Super League 2025/26.

“Looking at it now, we are better in the defensive sector. However, they have the advantage in goals scored this mid-season,” he stated.

This situation suggests the match will be tight and highly tactical. Persib is said to be relying on the solidity of their back line, while Persija has the advantage in attacking productivity.

Nevertheless, Hodak asserted that the home factor could be decisive. Playing at GBLA with the full support of the Bobotoh (fans) is believed capable of putting extra pressure on the visiting team throughout the match.

“We have the advantage of playing at home. The stadium will be full, the Bobotoh are behind us, and I hope we can get a positive result in tomorrow's match,” Hodak concluded.

Persib enters this match determined to return to winning ways after only managing a Draw away at Persik the previous week. Currently, The Bandung Tigers are in third place in the temporary Standings with 35 points from 16 matches, trailing Persija in second place on goal difference.

The duel at GBLA is thus confirmed to be more than just a fight for three points; it is also a battle of mentality, consistency, and ambition towards the top of the mid-season standings.
