Persija Jakarta doesn't just want to survive when visiting the home ground of Persib Bandung. Ahead of the heated duel at Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium (GBLA) on Sunday, January 11, 2026, Persija coach Mauricio Souza emphasized that his team will play with their own identity, not just defend against the home team's pressure.
Souza stated his team is now focused on the match against Persib Bandung. He ensured thorough preparation to achieve optimal results.
The Brazilian coach stressed that optimal preparation is key, as even small gaps could lead to disaster in such a Big Match.

"This week we'll start studying Persib. We know their team quality and significant investments. They also have several national team players," said Souza as quoted from the club's official website on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
Despite acknowledging Persib's star-studded strength, Souza insisted Persija won't just come to defend.
He affirmed his team will showcase Persija Jakarta's characteristic playing style while maintaining respect for their opponents.
"This week we'll refine preparations against Persib. But we're going there to play our own game scheme. We respect the opponent, respect Persib, but we have our own objectives to pursue," emphasized Souza.
This match isn't just about prestige but also positions in the Standings. Against Persib Bandung, Persija Jakarta must secure points to maintain their position above the Blue Prince.
Currently Persija Jakarta ranks second in the provisional Super League Standings with 35 points from 16 matches, leading Persib Bandung in third place only by goal difference.
