The competition at the top of the Premier League is heating up after the latest series of matches brought significant changes to the Standings. Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool all secured important victories, while several other matches also influenced the competition map from the middle to the bottom of the table.

Manchester City briefly took over the top of the Standings after defeating West Ham United with a convincing 3-0 score at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester, Saturday, December 20, 2025. The victory brought The Citizens to 37 points, leading by one point over Arsenal who hadn't played at the same time.

City immediately appeared aggressive from the first minute. Erling Haaland opened the scoring for the home side just six minutes into the match. The goal originated from a collaboration between Nico Gonzalez and Phil Foden on the right, before their cross was met by Haaland. Although his initial shot was saved by the West Ham goalkeeper, Haaland controlled the rebound and converted it into the opening goal.

City's pressure didn't relent. Haaland got another chance through a header, but still missed the target. Another opportunity came from Josko Gvardiol who headed a corner kick, though the ball went just wide of the visitors' goal.

City eventually doubled their lead in the 38th minute. Rayan Cherki penetrated from the left before delivering the ball into the penalty area. Haaland's touch then created space for Tijjani Reijnders who fired a shot into the top corner of the West Ham net, making it 2-0.

Entering the second half, West Ham tried to rally and chase the deficit. Jarrod Bowen had an opportunity from long range, but his shot missed the City goal. Instead of reducing the gap, West Ham conceded again in the 70th minute. Freddie Potts' mistake was exploited by Rico Lewis who sent the ball into the box, where Haaland converted it for his third goal. The 3-0 score held until the final whistle, confirming City's dominance.

However, City's lead at the top didn't last long. Arsenal reclaimed the top position after edging Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park, Liverpool, on Sunday. This result put The Gunners at 39 points, two points clear of City.

The match was open from the start. Both Arsenal and Everton aimed to attack, though clear chances were scarce in the early minutes. The turning point came in the 20th minute when the referee awarded a penalty after Everton defender Jake O’Brien handled the ball in the box, following a VAR review.

Viktor Gyokeres stepped up as the taker and executed perfectly. The Swedish striker beat Jordan Pickford, putting Arsenal ahead 1-0. The advantage boosted Arsenal's confidence as they controlled the game.

In the second half, Everton hoped for a penalty when Thierno Barry went down in the area. But after another VAR check, the referee ruled no foul. Arsenal nearly doubled their lead in the 65th minute through Leandro Trossard's shot that struck the post. The 1-0 score held until full time, securing the away win.

Meanwhile, Liverpool also achieved a positive result during their visit to Tottenham Hotspur's home ground. The Reds won 2-1 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, in a match that took place early Sunday WIB. The victory lifted Liverpool to fifth place in the Standings with 29 points.

Liverpool started cautiously. The first dangerous chance came in the 13th minute via Virgil van Dijk's header, saved by Spurs keeper Guglielmo Vicario. Tottenham responded through Rodrigo Bentancur and Randal Kolo Muani, but Alisson remained solid in Liverpool's goal.

The situation shifted in the 33rd minute when Spurs were reduced to ten men. Xavi Simons received a red card after a harsh foul on Van Dijk, confirmed by VAR. Despite being a man down, Spurs grew bolder on the counterattack, though the score remained level at halftime.

Liverpool finally broke the deadlock in the 56th minute. Florian Wirtz passed to substitute Alexander Isak, who finished the chance despite battling Micky van de Ven. However, Isak sustained an Injury and was replaced by Jeremie Frimpong.

Frimpong made an immediate impact. In the 66th minute, his right-wing cross was headed in by Hugo Ekitike for Liverpool's second goal. Spurs pulled one back in the 83rd minute through Richarlison's low finish from a corner situation.

The drama continued. Tottenham ended the match with nine players after Cristian Romero was sent off in second-half stoppage time (90+2) for fouling Ibrahima Konate. Liverpool's 2-1 victory stood until the final whistle.
