2026 FIFA World Cup Group L: England and Croatia are the favorites to qualify for the Knockout Stage.
Croatia's deadlock was finally broken in the second half. Ante Budimir, who came on as a substitute right at the start of the second half, became Croatia's match hero.
Meeting a cross delivered by Josip Stanisic, Budimir found the back of Panama's net.
Budimir's goal remained the only goal scored for the entire duration of this fixture.
This three-point haul carries special meaning, as it also marked Luka Modric's 200th senior appearance for Croatia.
With this win, the 2018 World Cup finalists now hold a very strong chance of progressing to the 2026 World Cup Round of 32, as England were held to a Draw by Ghana in the other group match.
That fixture ended goalless, with both teams only collecting 1 point apiece.
Next, Croatia will control their own destiny heading into Matchday 3, the final group stage fixture.
Croatia will automatically qualify for the knockout phase if they defeat Ghana in this final group match.
However, if they record a Draw or lose the match, Croatia's qualification fate will be decided by the Match Results of other teams.
Meanwhile, Panama who have already been officially eliminated from the tournament will face a tough final fixture against England.
