Amid Jakarta's bustle, a new green space emerges not just as a recreation spot but also as a symbol of the city's history and future. Taman Bendera Pusaka presents a new face for urban parks, integrating nature, sports, and national narrative within one vast landscape.

This park results from the integration of three former green spaces: Taman Ayodya, Taman Langsat, and Taman Leuser. Now unified into a single area designed to be more modern, inclusive, and multifunctional.

"The presence of Taman Bendera Pusaka is part of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government's commitment to expanding modern, inclusive, and family-friendly green open spaces," stated DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo.

The park's inauguration was also attended by Indonesia's 5th President, Megawati Soekarnoputri, emphasizing that this space serves not only as a public facility but also as a national symbol.

Fatmawati Statue: A Symbol at the Park's Heart

At the park's center stands a statue of Fatmawati Soekarno, the figure who sewed the Red and White flag.

"By placing the statue of Ibu Fatmawati in Taman Bendera Pusaka, we aim to honor this figure who contributed greatly to the nation and country. Everyone knows she was the one who sewed the sacred flag," explained Pramono.

The statue depicts Fatmawati pregnant while sewing the flag—a powerful visual of dedication and struggle.

"I received direct explanation from Ibu Mega that sewing the red part was the most difficult. Thus, the symbol of our pride, the national symbol of the Republic of Indonesia, was truly crafted and presented by Ibu Fatmawati Soekarno," he elaborated.

Tourism, Sports, and a 24-Hour Public Space

More than just a park, Taman Bendera Pusaka is designed as a living space for city residents.

Open 24 hours since March 15th, it offers various sports facilities like tennis, basketball, volleyball, Badminton, and padel courts, complete with a jogging track.

Furthermore, the area also provides space for MSMEs to grow, offering a Culinary Tourism Experience within the city park.

"We decided to give MSMEs opportunities to develop here and collaborate with regional-owned enterprises under the DKI Jakarta Government," Pramono clarified.

Green Infrastructure for the City's Future

Beyond its beauty, the park holds vital environmental functions for the city. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government integrated drainage systems and green infrastructure to enhance water absorption capacity and air circulation.

Additionally, merging the parks is part of the grand vision to expand Jakarta's green open spaces.

"This way, green open spaces in Jakarta are now growing rapidly. Soon, I may inaugurate approximately 23 to 25 new RTHs (Green Open Spaces) as they are permitted for collaborative development," stated Pramono.

Easy Access, Visitors Encouraged to Use Public Transportation

Despite its accessible location, visitors are advised to use Public Transportation like TransJakarta due to limited parking space around the park.

"Regarding parking—if I said there are no issues, I'd be lying. But I'm confident that since this is a main Public Transportation corridor in Jakarta, everyone can easily (use public transport)," said Pramono.
