Indonesia's achievement at the Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) 2026 serves as an evaluation material ahead of the 2026 Thomas and Uber Cup in Forum Horsens, Denmark, from April 24 to May 3.
Head of Development and Achievement at PP PBSI Eng Hian emphasized Indonesia's participation in BATC focused more on process than final results.
"We utilized BATC as part of preparation for the Thomas and Uber Cup. Therefore, we didn't field a full team but gave greater opportunities to younger players," stated Eng Hian.

The decision to deploy a combination of young and senior players formed part of the medium-term strategy.
According to Eng Hian, this event provided an important platform to assess individual performance, competitive mentality, and team strategy implementation before finalizing the squad composition for the Thomas and Uber Cup.
Additionally, BATC held strategic value for world rankings. Points earned by athletes would impact Indonesia's position in future tournaments—a crucial factor in determining draws and competition maps.
Women's Team Evaluation: Consistent in Top Four
Result-wise, Indonesia's Women's Team secured a bronze medal, meeting set targets. Indonesia exited at semifinals after losing 1-3 to South Korea at Conson Gymnasium, Qingdao, China, Saturday February 7, 2026.
This matched their BATC 2024 achievement when the women's team lost 1-3 to Thailand in semifinals. Indonesia's best achievement in women's category remains their 2022 championship after defeating South Korea 3-1 in the final.
Eng Hian appreciated several players' performances, including Ni Kadek Dhinda Amartya Pratiwi and Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo's solid return, noting positives for Uber Cup preparations.
Men's Team Falls Short of Final Target
Meanwhile, the men's team results were less satisfying. Indonesia targeted a finals berth, but Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and teammates exited in semifinals after losing 1-3 to Japan.
Eng Hian noted several players still needed improvement before Thomas Cup.
However, positive developments emerged in men's singles. Moh Zaki Ubaidillah, Prahdiska Bagas Shujiwo, and Richie Duta Richardo showed growing maturity in handling team match pressure.
The bronze medals won by Indonesia's men's and women's teams at BATC 2026 didn't fully meet expectations.
But for PBSI, this tournament provided crucial data regarding squad depth, mental readiness, and ideal composition heading to Denmark.
Focus now shifts to Forum Horsens. Evaluations are complete, experience gained, and regeneration shows progress. The next challenge: ensuring these processes culminate in bringing the Thomas and Uber Cup back to Indonesia.
